Game update sneak peek!
Hey there! It has been a while since I have released Drop ‘n’ Fill! here, I thought I’d share the sneak peek of the upcoming update.
Important Annoucements!
But first and foremost, I must make two important announcements.
1. This game will also be released on Steam!
Don’t worry, if you have purchased this game here on Itch, please contact me with the proof of purchase (such as an email confirming the order and a photo of the download card, if you have purchased this game directly from me) and I’ll be happy to provide you with a Steam key. Also, the same version (albeit without Steam features) will be uploaded here, so you won’t miss out on most of the game.
2. The game will be playable at an indie game dev event in Tokyo next year (2025)!
The reason why I’m also releasing this game on Steam is that I’m going to be attending Tokyo Game Dungeon 7 scheduled to be held on February 15th and 16th, 2025 in Hamamatsucho, Japan!
The Tokyo Game Dungeon (TGD hereafter) is an indie event where you can discover hundreds of (yes, really!) indie games and connect with the devs! TGD7 will be held on February 15th and 16th 2025, but Drop ‘n’ Fill! and I will only be there on the 15th. This is because of the sheer number of indie devs wishing to showcase their games, there simply isn’t enough space! So, the entire catalogue of the games showcased will completely change on the 15th and 16th! Keep that in mind!
And what does TGD have to do with the migration to Steam, you ask? There will be a special page for TGD7! The same happened in the past two TGDs, both of which you can still find below:
https://store.steampowered.com/sale/TokyoGameDungeon5
https://store.steampowered.com/sale/TokyoGameDungeon6
All the games featured here were also playable at the respective event. And I’m working hard to get my game listed there when the TGD7 page is released!
What to expect for the next update?
All right, time for a sneak peek of the next update. As stated in the release devlog, I’m making significant changes in the difficulty of the game (both buffs and nerfs). The most notable of all is reworking the rank system for the Time Attack mode.
As you might have already experienced, I discovered that the current rank was WAY TOO HARSH AS F*<K! So here’s what I’m doing right now:
In addition to the higher rank being easier to achieve, the breakdown of the rank is also shown to you! I’ve also added even higher ranks that are harder to achieve to balance things out. The re-balancing I’m working on is, in short:
- Multi-line clears are rewarded more than a single-line clear
- It also extends the combo time-out gauge, making it easier to integrate big moves without breaking a combo
- Clear display of “Rank Points” used to determine your play rank.
Also, did you notice that the gauges on the right, the skill gauges, have icons for what they do? It was significantly unclear what they did, so I’m also working on that. A tutorial for how to use the skills is also on the way.
Side note: this is already the case as of the initial release, but in the Timed Mode, you can use some of the skills from the start! I found out this was also way too unclear. So in the next version, a special animation will play before the start of the game - something like this.
I’m making even more changes to the game, but this is already getting too long for a devlog. I’ll see you in the next devlog - I hope to bring in more updates to share with you!
And hey, if you haven’t experienced grooving with the blocks you drop onto the field, you can do so now by purchasing the game below!
